Paranormal Activity - Play Cambridge Theatre reviews
Perfectly Average
I came into this event with high hopes for an amazing ballet. Expecting a blowout performance after perusing the program and noticing the impressive credentials of many of the directors, I was sadly mistaken.
The only atrocious part of the performance involved the three "Ribbon Candy" dancers, who could not even bow in sync. However, the rest of the performance ranged from average to amazing. The Sugar Plum fairy (Margaret Severin-Hansen) and her cavalier (Pablo Javier Perez) were both quite excellent, as were the snowflakes, coffee, and tea. The performance's biggest pitfall was the over-employment of young, untrained dancers. While I understand that many roles in the ballet are traditionally given to younger dancers, I was hoping for enough quality and showmanship to be passable. It was surprising that the "Truffles," who appeared to be in the 4-5 age range, had better synchronization than the ribbon candy and glided much more smoothly than the "Toy Sugar Plum." The lack of Clara's dancing also caught my attention.
I was expecting different dancers but similar quality since there was no price difference between the matinée and evening performances. Although an evening performance would not have worked with my schedule, I believe it would have been a wiser choice as all the principals were apparently dancing, making it potentially better.
The performance was still enjoyable and festive, but I think it's important to warn future patrons of any possible flaws so they know what to expect.
